How To Roast Pumpkin Seeds
Carving pumpkins? Save the seeds! Roasting seeds fresh from the pumpkin is easy when you follow a few basic steps. Make a healthy, salty, crunchy snack, and start a new, fun fall tradition.

Fall means pumpkins in our house. From our girls down to our pets, we’ve loved everything pumpkins! – Pumpkin costumes, pumpkin decor, pumpkin crafts, carving pumpkins, and of course pumpkin spice.
We always save the seeds after carving our pumpkins. We have a routine. It is typically nippy outside by fall with the days getting shorter. We use a tarp or plastic table cloth and carve inside in our living room. It can get messy, especially when it’s time to scoop the goop. Then the carving fun begins.

Our girls are at the age that we no longer have to help or supervise using sharp knives and making their spooky or cute creations. They know they need to save the seeds, wash and clean them, lay them out on paper towels to dry (overnight usually does the trick), then roast them up with our favorite spices in the oven.
If you have not tried roasting pumpkin seeds at home, give it a try. It’s easy and addictive. As a result you will be gifted with salty, crunchy snack that’s hard to resist. We like spicing them up with all our favorite seasonings.
Simple Steps to Roasting Fresh Pumpkin Seeds:
- Retrieve the seeds out of a pumpkin – perfect timing is as you clean it out before carving
- Clean the seeds out in a colander-
- Dry the seeds on paper towels
- Season the seeds
- Roast the seeds
All pumpkins are unique and vary in their fertility 🙂 One medium-sized pumpkin produces approximately a cup of seeds.
